My Story
I found yoga the way philosophers do — by asking, What is a Good Life? My PhD dissertation eventually led me somewhere no academic expected: onto a mat, into my body and soul.
That was over 30 years ago. Since then I’ve taught yoga, meditation, creative writing, and philosophy to pretty much everyone — university students in Scotland, kindergartners in France, homemakers, athletes, and musicians in Memphis, retreat-goers in Mexico. For the past five years I’ve co-owned Delta Groove Yoga, Memphis’s favorite studio, where I direct our Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training. I’ve also published two books, including Even the Breath, a novel in which Kundalini Yoga saves the world.
Then in October 2025, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Healthy as they come — 30 years of practice, no alcohol, no cigarettes, yoga five times a week — and still, it happened. I had a radical mastectomy, and 24 hours later I was already up and moving, running my own recovery using everything my practice had built in me: core strength, mental and physical flexibility, and a deeply trained ability to listen to my own body. Five weeks out, I was cancer-free and moving freely. My surgeon was amazed. Honestly, so was I.
That experience didn’t just confirm what I’d been teaching — it deepened it. It’s why my work has never lived in the body alone. Alongside yoga and meditation, I offer creative writing workshops and mentoring to spark your muse, and spiritual mentoring for those ready to sit with the bigger questions — the ones under the busyness of daily life. Different doors, same room: a deeper relationship with your whole vibrant, creative, curious, and courageous Self.

Nothing like looking death in the face to reset your priorities. In the weeks and months since surgery, I had to ask again, more urgently this time, What do I REALLY want to share with the world? What do I have to give? SPARK is the answer that came: A place beyond space and time to reconnect, reignite, and reclaim. Whether you’re recovering from something hard, craving more sparkle in your day-to-day, or simply ready to stop being a passenger in your own story — my teaching and mentoring meet you exactly where you are, to remind you what it feels like to be authentically, wholeheartedly alive.
